OUR STORY
Dakar Surf Atlantique was founded by Aly Diagne in May 2023. Aly (28) was born and raised in Yoff, a traditional district of Dakar facing the Atlantic Ocean, inhabited mainly by fishermen. Aly has always been fascinated by the sea and as a child he dreamed of learning to surf. He started out with broken wooden and polystyrene boards. He then had the opportunity to became a surf instructor and worked for seven years in a surf school. Today he is the treasurer of the Senegalese Surfing Federation, and he has decided to set up his own 100% local project: a surf school with a tiny bar.
Thanks to the support of his students who believed in him from the start, Dakar Surf Atlantique quickly became a school where Dakar residents and tourists can learn or practice surf, relax and make new friends.
As of today, we’re a team of three, we’ve built the school using sustainable materials and installed electricity and water for showers and toilets.
Our dream is to create a place where people can meet and live in peace and, through surfing and surfing-related activities, we are committed to:
-train young instructors
-provide stable employment for our staff
-use our spaces and resources to develop social activities
